Flying People in New York City

Flying People in New York City Guerrilla Marketing

What would you think if you saw what looked like three human beings flying around your city? In order to promote the upcoming film, “Chronicle”, advertising agency Thinkmodo in NYC created 3 human shaped RC planes and flew them around New York City to give the illusion that people were flying around the city.

The campaign was promoting a movie in which three high school friends gain super powers that allow them to fly. This campaign truly made the movie come to life! The big question is if the campaign seems disconnected as there is no clear message of what it is trying to promote.

Since the video was aired on January 30th, 2012, it has been viewed over 7.2 million times. Talk about buzzworthy! What do you think of this campaign?

I think this is a beautiful campaign idea, visually stunning, quite moving. I would have loved to have seen it in real life. Inspirational marketing, literally the skies the limit.

Kind of lack luster. So people see some silhouettes of people flying around the Brooklyn Bridge. Where is the pay off? How do we know what we are looking at and why? So you take a picture, then what? Where is the advertising? It’s just some dudes who made some cardboard cut outs and flew them around. It’s not advertising, its a agencies selfish way to use client dollars to produce something that is only relevant in a case study video for possible award submission.
